Nagaland has received financial support of ₹4.78 crore from the North Eastern Council (NEC) in November for a wide range of development activities, including tourism promotion, cultural preservation and youth skill programmes. The information was shared in an official release issued on Monday.
According to the release, the fund formed part of NEC’s monthly disbursement to all northeastern states. In November alone, NEC released a total amount of ₹56.22 crore to eight states for infrastructure creation, livelihood support, cultural initiatives, seminars and various innovation-based projects under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
For Nagaland, NEC has prioritised assistance in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, culture, education, skill development and livelihood enhancement. The council further said that it remains committed to ensuring timely release of funds and close coordination with the State government for effective implementation of schemes.
Besides allocations made to states, the council also released ₹14.89 crore to various central agencies, cultural organisations and academic institutions to promote regional events and research-based activities.
Several key projects backed by NEC during the month included community development initiatives for indigenous communities, piggery infrastructure, scientific breeding units, documentation of traditional herbal knowledge, expansion of smart virtual classrooms and animal feed production.
The release further informed that NEC has completed a fire-safety and youth skill training project sanctioned in March 2023. The completed work includes the installation of rainwater harvesting reservoirs at Dimapur and Khuzama, along with infrastructure development at a skill training centre in Chiechama aimed at preparing youths for emergency service careers.
