Renault Group has clarified that its Chennai manufacturing facility has been fully owned by the company since September 2025, underscoring the plant’s strategic importance to its India operations and long-term business growth.
The automaker said the facility, which manufactures vehicles for both Renault and Nissan for domestic and export markets, is still occasionally referred to as the “Nissan plant” or “Nissan factory”. However, Renault said such references are no longer accurate as the Chennai facility is now a Renault-owned manufacturing unit.
According to the company, the clarification has been issued to ensure accurate references to the facility in future communications, reports and media coverage. Despite the ownership change, the plant continues to manufacture vehicles for both brands, reflecting the ongoing production collaboration between Renault and Nissan.
The clarification reinforces Renault’s commitment to strengthening its manufacturing footprint in India at a time when the country is emerging as a major global automotive production and export hub. The company described the Chennai facility as a key pillar of its India operations, supporting its long-term growth strategy, localisation initiatives and export ambitions.
