Respite From Heat: IMD Forecasts Intermittent Rain and Thunderstorms Across Delhi-NCR Till June 21

Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) can expect continued relief from the sweltering summer heat, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a prolonged spell of intermittent rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds lasting until June 21. Driven by the combined impact of an active western disturbance and localized weather systems, the regional atmosphere has seen a substantial moisture buildup, dragging temperatures several notches below normal. Meteorologists note that the maximum temperature across the capital is highly unlikely to cross the 40-degree Celsius mark over the next few days, settling comfortably between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius. This sudden downshift comes immediately after the capital recorded its coolest day of the month, offering a much-needed break from the severe heatwave conditions that had previously gripped northwest India.

According to the official IMD daily bulletin, the weather over the next four days will feature a generally cloudy to partly cloudy sky, with spells of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning. While the initial phase will see moderate wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, weather experts warn that the intensity could pick up significantly toward the weekend, with gusty winds potentially reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph by June 20 and 21. While the weather office has not issued any severe emergency warnings or alerts at present, civic bodies have proactively implemented localized safety measures to combat potential waterlogging at known low-lying hotspots. Although the cloudy skies and persistent precipitation will keep extreme afternoon heat firmly at bay, the weather office cautioned that localized humidity levels are expected to spike, which might induce minor discomfort between rain intervals before the mercury begins a gradual upward climb after June 21.
