The second edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon 2026 (SIM-26) was held in Guwahati on Sunday.
The event brought together running enthusiasts, air warriors, veterans, their families and citizens from across the North Eastern region in a celebration of fitness, valour and national pride.
The marathon is a tribute to the legendary Param Vir Chakra awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, whose unparalleled courage and supreme sacrifice during the 1971 Indo-Pak war remains an enduring source of inspiration.
“His valour, determination and devotion of duty continue to inspire generations and embody the highest traditions of Indian Air Force,” an official statement said.
Air Marshal IS Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command flagged off the SIM-26 in Guwahati.
The event witnessed participation from people across different age groups with more than 3500 runners participating in categories such as 21.1 km, 10 km and 5 km.
The overwhelming response reflected the spirit of inclusivity, enthusiasm and camaraderie that the event seeks to foster while encouraging a culture of fitness and healthy living among the people of the region.
The marathon commenced on an energetic note with a Zumba warm-up session, followed by inspirational performances by Indian Air Force Band and a synchronized display by the Air Warrior Drill Team.
The Guwahati edition of the marathon holds special significance, as it brings the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon to the North Eastern region, further strengthening the bond between the IAF and the people of the region.
The event provided a unique platform for citizens to participate along with air warriors and veterans, celebrating the shared values of discipline, determination, team work and service to the nation.
