Silchar municipal corporation polls on october 3: state election commission

The elections to the 42 wards of Silchar Municipal Corporation will be held on October 3, the Assam State Election Commission announced on Wednesday.
Polling will be held on the schedule date of the elections from 7:30 am to 4 pm.
According to the election schedule announced by the Commission, the notice of election will be issued on September 2. The last date for filing nominations is September 11, while scrutiny of nominations and publication of the list of validly nominated candidates will take place on September 14.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 17, on which the final list of contesting candidates will also be published.
If required, fresh polling will be held on October 5 from 7:30 am to 4pm.
Counting of votes will take place on October 6 from 8am and will continue till completion of the counting process.
A total of 2,70,772 voters will be eligible to cast their votes in the election. Of them, 1,29,877 are male voters, 1,40,884 are female voters and 11 belong to the third gender. The election will be conducted across 42 wards and 316 polling stations.
According to the reservation arrangement, ward numbers 5, 12, 18 and 19 have been reserved for Scheduled Caste, while ward numbers 3, 4 and 10 have been reserved for Scheduled Caste (Women).
Ward numbers 7, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 41 have been reserved for women. The remaining are open wards.
The Commission has fixed the maximum ceiling of election expenditure at Rs 3 lakh for each candidate.
In the case of star campaigners, recognised national political parties will be permitted to nominate a maximum of 20 star campaigners, while recognised state political parties will be permitted to nominate a maximum of 10 star campaigners.
The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the areas covered by the Silchar Municipal Corporation.
The Commission has also directed that the use of loudspeakers, whether static or mounted on moving vehicles, will not be permitted between 10 pm and 6 am.
The silence period for the election will commence at 4:30 pm on October 1, 2026, and will continue until 4:30 pm on October 3, 2026.
The Assam State Election Commission has appealed to all political parties, candidates, election officials and voters to extend their cooperation for the smooth, peaceful, free and fair conduct of the Silchar Municipal Corporation Election, 2026.
