Speakers highlight family planning, gender equality during population day discussions

The districts of Nagaon and Hojai commemorated World Population Day. Mera Yuva Bharat, a youth organization under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, arranged a celebration in the Hojai district in cooperation with Kolong Valley Bahumukhi Unnayan Samiti and Sonali Udyog Samiti under the Udali Development Block. Additionally, events were hosted at the Moinapur Bazar Natya Chora in the Hojai district and the Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha’s auditorium in Nagaon. The purpose of the activities was to enable youth to make knowledgeable choices on family planning and reproductive health. In addition to a discussion session on a range of population-related topics, such as family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights, students participated in an extempore speech competition.

The general secretary of the Sadou Asom Gramya Puthibharal Sangstha, Khagen Chandra Nath, chaired the discussion session at the organization’s auditorium. Shashindra Dev Mahanta, a retired teacher and sports organizer, and Bhaben Bora, a retired teacher and renowned Assamese poet, gave enlightening talks on important topics like gender equality, human rights, and family planning. Key speakers Tankeswar Nath, a former headmaster of Kaki Adarsha High School, and Laksheswar Hazarika, a social activist, gave talks on family planning, gender equality, poverty, and maternal health at the Moinapur Bazar Natya Chora in Hojai. Both men and women attended the programs, which were successful in increasing awareness of the significance of reproductive health and population control.
