Due to the ongoing vote-on-account budget system, the state government has temporarily suspended the subsidized supply scheme for masoor dal, sugar, and salt from the month of June. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the scheme will remain suspended until a full budget is passed following the formation of the new government in the state.
According to information shared by the Chief Minister’s Office, the government’s subsidized food item distribution programme will be made operational again from August. However, the government clarified that there will be no disruption to the free rice supply system that beneficiaries have been receiving under the Food Security Scheme. Beneficiaries will continue to receive free rice regularly every month as before.
Sources in the administration said that the vote-on-account arrangement has been made only to cover emergency government expenditures until a full budget is presented and approved. Due to financial constraints, the scheme had to be temporarily halted. However, the government has assured that beneficiaries will once again receive the benefits of this scheme after the budget process is completed.
