The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) held its 2026 orientation programme on Thursday at the Central Auditorium, welcoming incoming students to their academic journey with valuable guidance on higher education, career development, and personal responsibility. Graced by Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education & Tourism, Government of Nagaland, as the chief guest, the event aimed to motivate the new batch as they transition into university life. Addressing the gathering, Minister Along emphasized the transformative role of education in shaping both individuals and society, urging students to remain committed to learning, build strong character and confidence, and make meaningful use of their time on campus to contribute positively to the region and nation. Praising the university’s diverse environment, he remarked, “USTM is truly a centre of traditions, oneness and unity. The whole Northeast is at USTM.” The event commenced with a welcome address by Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM and Chairman of ERDF, who greeted the minister and congratulated the new learners. Designed to familiarize students with the campus culture and academic opportunities, the orientation reinforced the importance of balancing academic rigor with holistic personal development. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by USTM Vice Chancellor Prof. G. D. Sharma. Established in 2011 as the first state private university in Science and Technology in North East India, USTM holds an ‘A Grade’ NAAC accreditation and continues to champion research, innovation, regional development, and inclusivity across the Northeast.
