Nayara Energy Achieves Scheduled Refinery Maintenance; Safeguards India’s Fuel Supply Continuity

In major energy news, Nayara Energy has successfully completed its scheduled 2026 turnaround at the Vadinar refinery in Gujarat, officially resuming full operations. As India’s second-largest single-site refinery—processing twenty million tonnes annually—the facility had temporarily shut down on April ninth for critical maintenance, inspections, and high-impact operational upgrades.

What makes this turnaround remarkable is its massive scale, executed seamlessly against a backdrop of complex global geopolitical tensions. The project deployed a peak workforce of over thirty-five thousand personnel and mobilized nearly four hundred and eighty pieces of heavy machinery, including one hundred and eighty cranes. To optimize efficiency and manage the massive workforce safely, Nayara leveraged advanced artificial intelligence systems for movement tracking and drone-enabled communication.

Beyond routine maintenance, Nayara executed several value-enhancement projects. These initiatives are designed to elevate overall product quality, optimize process efficiency, and introduce key energy-saving measures aimed at reducing the facility’s long-term emissions intensity. Crucially, these upgrades will significantly extend the operating cycles between future required maintenance shutdowns.

Despite the temporary closure of a facility that commands roughly eight percent of India’s refining capacity and seven percent of its retail fuel network, domestic consumers felt zero disruption. Nayara maintained completely uninterrupted fuel supplies across its nationwide network throughout the entire period. This seamless continuity was achieved through highly meticulous inventory planning, precise logistics coordination, and robust business continuity protocols.

The successful, on-schedule completion of this turnaround highlights Nayara Energy’s immense operational resilience and unwavering commitment to worker safety. More importantly, it solidifies the refinery’s long-term reliability and efficiency, marking a vital milestone in reinforcing India’s domestic energy security.
