A shocking murder case involving an Assam native has surfaced in Chennai, where a 40-year-old man was allegedly killed, dismembered, and his body parts disposed of at different locations across the city. Police have arrested the victim’s wife and her friend in connection with the crime.
The victim has been identified as Ameer Ali, a native of Assam who was residing in Chennai. The case came to light on June 5 after a suitcase containing a human torso was discovered near a staircase on Platform No. 4 of Perambur Railway Station.
According to police, railway authorities launched an investigation after passengers reported a foul smell emanating from an abandoned suitcase. The discovery led investigators to uncover a gruesome murder that had allegedly taken place days earlier.
Chennai Police said a major breakthrough came when they traced a medical waste disposal bag containing the mutilated torso to a private hospital in Teynampet. This crucial lead helped investigators identify the victim and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the crime.
Police have arrested Ruheema, the victim’s wife, and her friend Ashraf Ali, both reportedly natives of Assam. According to investigators, the duo earned their livelihood by assisting patients from outside Tamil Nadu who travelled to Chennai for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that domestic disputes may have been the motive behind the murder. Police said Ruheema was allegedly upset over her husband’s purported relationship with another woman, which had reportedly led to frequent arguments within the family.
Investigators allege that the accused first administered sedatives to Ameer Ali before slitting his throat at their residence in Teynampet. In an attempt to conceal the crime, they allegedly dismembered the body and disposed of the remains at multiple locations across Chennai.
Police officials stated that CCTV footage and discrepancies in the statements of the accused during interrogation played a key role in cracking the case.
The recovered torso has been sent to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, police teams are continuing search operations to locate the victim’s severed head and other missing body parts.
The incident has sparked concern in Assam, where both the victim and the accused are believed to have family roots. Chennai Police said the investigation remains ongoing and further details are expected to emerge.
