Tata Power has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) to supply 324 MW of power from its upcoming 1,000 MW Pumped Hydro Storage Project (PSP) at Bhivpuri in Maharashtra.
The project was awarded through SECI’s tariff-based global competitive bidding process for the supply of 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh of power from pumped hydro storage projects being developed across India. Tata Power secured the project through an e-reverse auction and will develop it under the Build, Own, Operate (BOO) model.
The Bhivpuri Pumped Hydro Storage Project is scheduled for commissioning by 2029 and will operate under a 40-year Pumped Storage Purchase Agreement. The project will provide eight hours of energy storage, helping ensure a reliable and stable power supply during periods of peak electricity demand.
The facility will be connected to the 765/400 kV South Kalamb Central Transmission Utility (CTU) substation through the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). The project is expected to play a key role in supporting India’s renewable energy transition by storing surplus power generated from solar and wind sources and converting it into firm, dispatchable electricity.
The SECI award further strengthens Tata Power’s position in the long-duration energy storage segment, which is crucial for integrating increasing renewable energy capacity into the national grid.
The development aligns with Tata Power’s clean energy strategy and its Net Zero 2045 ambition. The company’s clean and green energy portfolio currently stands at 17.5 GW, including a 9.6 GW project pipeline, with 2.8 GW comprising pumped storage capacity.
With a total operational and pipeline capacity exceeding 26 GW, Tata Power continues to expand its presence across the power value chain while supporting India’s transition towards a sustainable and resilient energy ecosystem.
