Assam Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Parliamentary Affairs, Pijush Hazarika on Thursday chaired a review meeting on rehabilitation and other post-flood issues of Sivasagar district at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sivasagar.
The meeting was also attended by Ministers Bimal Borah and Sushanta Borgohain, along with Nazira MLA Mayur Borgohain.
During the meeting, the Ministers reviewed the progress of rehabilitation support being extended to flood-affected families and held detailed discussions with the district administration and Circle Officers on the implementation of the Government’s rehabilitation initiatives.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing dewatering and floodwater removal operations in Sivasagar town, damage assessment, and other key post-flood measures to ensure timely assistance and rehabilitation of affected people.
The Deputy Commissioner informed the meeting that around 43,000 flood-affected families in the district have so far received the ₹15,000 interim financial assistance provided by the Government of Assam.
Minister Hazarika directed the district administration to ensure that all eligible flood-affected families receive the interim financial assistance without delay and that no deserving beneficiary is left out.
The Minister further directed the district administration to expedite all rehabilitation activities and emphasised the need for close coordination among all departments to ensure the effective implementation of rehabilitation measures across the district.
It may be noted that Minister Pijush Hazarika had been stationed in Sivasagar for seven days to personally oversee flood relief and rehabilitation efforts in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts. With Nazira Legislative Assembly Constituency being the worst affected, the Minister has been continuously visiting flood-hit areas, reviewing relief operations, interacting with affected families, and monitoring rehabilitation measures on the ground.
In coordination with the district administration, immediate steps have also been initiated to mobilise resources for the construction of temporary shelters for families whose houses were completely washed away in the floods, ensuring that they receive timely support during the rehabilitation process.
