Godrej Industries Group has hosted a high-level Malaysian delegation led by YB Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Malaysia, to explore opportunities for cooperation in oil palm innovation, research, trade and the household insecticides sector.
The delegation comprised representatives from Malaysia’s Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, Consul General of Malaysia in Chennai, Malaysian Palm Oil Council, Malaysian Palm Oil Board and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil. Discussions with Godrej Agrovet focused on the oil palm upstream sector, with both sides examining advanced research and scientific tools to develop high-performing varieties suited to India’s diverse agro-climatic conditions. The proposed cooperation could support locally adapted planting materials, enhance productivity and resilience, and contribute to India’s long-term edible oil security.
In Guwahati, greater investment in oil palm research and locally suited planting material could support Assam’s emerging oil palm ecosystem, potentially creating opportunities across cultivation, processing and related agricultural value chains in the Northeast.
Discussions with Godrej Consumer Products Ltd focused on strengthening the household insecticides sector, including trade, innovation and sustainable industry development.
Noraini said India and Malaysia share longstanding economic ties and that the engagement could identify practical areas for cooperation. Rakesh Swami, Group President and Head of Corporate Affairs, Godrej Industries Group, said partnerships and knowledge exchange would be important in addressing evolving agricultural and consumer needs.
