Nagaland’s apex tribal organizations have once again reiterated their collective decision to boycott all government-related events and functions, a move that underscores deepening friction between the state administration and community representatives. The decision, originally adopted during a joint meeting of the five apex bodies on August 9, remains firm, with the groups declaring they will not attend any official engagements until their demands are addressed by the state government.
In line with this stand, the bodies confirmed that they will abstain from the coordination meeting convened by the Department of Tourism on Monday, August 18. The scheduled session, aimed at strengthening tourism initiatives and district-level cooperation, will go ahead without the participation of the influential tribal organizations.
According to the joint resolution, the boycott extends beyond tourism programmes to all state and district-level functions. The directive has also been passed down to the constituent units and frontal organizations of the apex tribal bodies, instructing strict compliance across the state. This unified approach signals the determination of the groups to maintain solidarity until the government provides what they term a “positive and constructive” response to their charter of demands, which was submitted to the Chief Secretary on August 9.
