A CRPF personnel allegedly shot dead two of his colleagues and injured another before dying by suicide at the 34 Battalion CRPF camp in Katimari, Assam’s Nagaon district, on Monday morning.
According to preliminary information, ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was on duty at the camp’s main gate when he was reportedly found without his assigned service weapon. He allegedly later took an INSAS rifle from the guard room and moved towards the rear side of the Quarter Guard.
Police said Premabaram allegedly opened fire on Head Constable (HV/GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel, who sustained critical injuries and later died. He subsequently allegedly shot SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav, who had arrived at the camp for document verification. Yadav also died in the incident.
The accused then allegedly fired at ASI/Mane Govind Sripul of the B/171 Battalion, leaving him injured.
Following the shooting, Premabaram reportedly entered the B/171 Battalion barrack and allegedly shot himself. He died at the spot.
The injured CRPF personnel was rushed to Dew Care Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased have been identified as SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav, Head Constable Vishnu Prasad Baghel and ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram.
The exact circumstances and motive behind the shooting remain unclear. Security authorities have initiated an investigation to determine what led to the incident inside the CRPF camp.
