AirAsia strengthens crisis response with counselling partnership in Malaysia

AirAsia X (AirAsia Group) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Board of Counsellors Malaysia (BOC) to strengthen its emergency preparedness and crisis response capabilities through professional psychosocial support across its regional network. The agreement was formalised in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying and AirAsia Group Chief Safety & Quality Officer Captain SaravananSubramaniam. The partnership aims to integrate psychosocial support into the airline group’s humanitarian assistance and emergency response framework.

Under the collaboration, both organisations will work together on emergency response preparedness, deployment of registered counsellors during crises, psychosocial first aid (PFA), disaster response exercises and specialised training programmes for AirAsia personnel across all operating units. BOC will provide trained counsellors to assist employees, survivors, victims and family members affected by emergencies or crisis situations throughout AirAsia’s operational network. The partnership will also focus on strengthening emergency response protocols through simulation exercises, knowledge-sharing initiatives and capability development programmes.

Group Chief Operations Officer Captain Suresh Bangah said the collaboration reinforces AirAsia’s commitment to safety and the wellbeing of guests while ensuring timely care and assistance during challenging situations. BOC CEO Tuan Haji Sadli bin Osman said the initiative would enhance psychosocial support services and humanitarian response capabilities within the aviation sector. In Guwahati, the move highlights the growing importance of passenger welfare and crisis management standards in the aviation industry. With air connectivity expanding across Northeast India and Southeast Asia, airlines strengthening emergency preparedness and mental health support mechanisms are expected to boost passenger confidence and support long-term growth in the regional aviation market. The agreement also provides for AirAsia to facilitate transportation and logistical support for counsellors deployed during emergency situations, training programmes and simulation exercises across destinations within its network. The initiative reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to promote safety, resilience and compassionate care as key pillars of crisis management.
