With only a few days left for Durga Puja, preparations for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Utsav are in full swing across Assam. Amid the festive preparations, artist Sanjib Basak has drawn attention in Dhubri town by creating a unique Durga idol using approximately 50,000 safety pins.
A government employee by profession, Basak pursues his artistic passion during the night after completing his official duties during the day. He has reportedly spent the past four to five months working night after night at his home to bring this distinctive creation to life.
The unusual Durga idol, crafted using around 50,000 safety pins, will be displayed at the Rashmi Sangha Puja Mandap in the Pachmore area of Dhubri town. The innovative creation is expected to attract a large number of devotees and visitors during the upcoming festivities.
Basak has previously made headlines for creating Durga idols using unconventional materials. His earlier creations have incorporated needles and syringes, buttons, a 20-kilogram ornament, plastic bottles and other materials, reflecting his distinctive approach to artistic expression.
In recognition of his creative achievements, Basak has received several honours, including the India Book of Records, the National Prerna Award, the Kamala Award for Creativity and the Assam Book of Records.
His latest creation, featuring thousands of carefully arranged safety pins, is expected to emerge as one of the major attractions of this year’s Durga Puja celebrations in Dhubri, showcasing the artist’s dedication, patience and creativity.
