Assam chief secretary Ravi Kota on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of the directions issued by the Chief Minister regarding the expeditious settlement of insurance claims in flood-affected districts of Assam.

The chief secretary held discussions with the CGM, SBI and Convenor, SLBC, representatives of Acko Insurance and officials of the Finance Department to review the institutional framework for the timely settlement of claims in accordance with IRDAI guidelines.

The meeting reviewed the exposure of insurance companies in the districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat and deliberated on measures to facilitate the timely assessment, processing and settlement of claims under both general and special insurance categories.

Deliberations focused on strengthening coordination among district administrations, financial institutions and insurance providers, streamlining procedures, enhancing outreach, and ensuring the prompt settlement of claims through a transparent and time-bound mechanism.

Insurance companies were advised to intensify field-level assessments, and ensure the expeditious disposal of all genuine claims so that affected individuals and families receive timely assistance and support.

The review also underscored the importance of ensuring effective last-mile delivery of services and extending prompt financial relief to affected communities.
