Bata India reported a strong financial performance for the second quarter of FY27, with profit after tax (PAT) rising 31% year-on-year to Rs 180 million from Rs 138 million in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue increased 7.5% to Rs 8,618 million against Rs 8,013 million in Q2FY26, marking the company’s fourth consecutive quarter of accelerating growth.
The performance was supported by higher average selling prices (ASP), premiumisation and improved retail like-for-like sales growth, despite the festive calendar largely shifting to the third quarter. The company also reported double-digit growth in its franchise and I&D channels.
Bata’s quarterly performance included a non-cash foreign exchange loss of Rs 30 million on licence fees due to currency depreciation and a one-time asset write-off of Rs 39 million. Other income declined by Rs 46 million following the distribution of Rs 3,213 million in surplus funds as a special dividend.
Managing Director and CEO Sanjay S. Rao, who assumed charge on October 1, 2026, said gross margins improved marginally and operating performance continued to strengthen. Inventory freshness stood at 92%, while net stock declined 7% year-on-year.
Bata currently operates over 2,000 stores, including franchise outlets, and more than 3,800 KROs. The company expects growth momentum to continue in Q3, supported by festive demand, premiumisation, network expansion, sharper product assortment and disciplined capital allocation.
