The Guwahati Open PWR 200, organised by the Assam Pickleball Association (APA) under the aegis of the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), concluded on Sunday.
The two-day tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from players across the country and marked another significant milestone in the growth of pickleball in Northeast India.
A total of 130 players competed across 22 events, playing 210 matches over the course of the championship.
As an officially sanctioned National Ranking and Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) event, the tournament provided players with an opportunity to earn valuable ranking points at both the national and international levels.
The championship attracted leading players from Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, and various districts of Assam, resulting in a highly competitive field across junior, open, and masters categories.
Events were conducted for boys, girls, men, women, and senior age-group players, reflecting the broad appeal and inclusive nature of the sport.
A total prize purse of Rs 80,000 was awarded across the Men’s Open Singles and Doubles, as well as the 30+ and 40+ Men’s Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles categories, adding to the prestige and competitiveness of the tournament.
The tournament showcased an impressive standard of play and highlighted the rapid growth of pickleball in Assam and the Northeast. The strong participation from both established and emerging players underscored the increasing popularity of the sport and the expanding competitive ecosystem being developed in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, officials of the Assam Pickleball Association expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the tournament and the encouraging response from players, coaches, and supporters.
They noted that such events play a crucial role in talent identification and development while positioning Assam as an emerging destination for national-level pickleball competitions.
With record participation, quality competition, national ranking significance, and international ranking opportunities, the Guwahati Open PWR 200 has further strengthened Assam’s reputation as one of India’s fastest-growing hubs for pickleball and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the development of the sport.
