The barbaric assault and alleged murder of Madhurjya Barman, Assistant Secretary of the West Nalbari Regional Students’ Union and a resident of Chamata Bhakatpara in Nalbari district, by Roz Ali alias Asik Ali and Hitesh Ali, has sent shockwaves across the length and breadth of Assam.
Madhurjya’s sister, Mridumudra Deka, who is alleged to have become a victim of what is described as “Love Jihad,” sustained grievous injuries in the attack and is presently engaged in a life-and-death struggle at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
According to a press communiqué issued from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, the headquarters of the Assam State BJP spokesperson Pranjal Kalita stated that certain elements among the Miya community are, through calculated and systematic means, spreading what he described as the poisonous scourge of “Love Jihad,” thereby attempting to corrupt and ensnare the rising generation of Assam and undermine the foundations of India’s ancient Sanatan civilisation.
The horrifying incident at Chamata, Nalbari, he asserted, has once again demonstrated that certain anti-social elements derive a perverse and demonic satisfaction from perpetrating violence against Hindu youths.
The spokesperson further alleged that the persistent advocacy and appeasement extended by certain so-called Hindu leaders associated with the Congress Party, Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad, and various Left-leaning ideological groups have emboldened such elements with increasing audacity.
He claimed that while these leaders readily mobilise themselves in defence of Miya interests whenever circumstances demand, they conspicuously lack the courage to raise their voices against criminal elements belonging to the same community.
As a consequence, he alleged, young women continue to fall prey to incidents characterised as “Love Jihad,” while Assamese youths are increasingly losing their lives at the hands of criminal perpetrators.
The statement further referred to another incident in Chaygaon, where an individual identified as Akkas Ali allegedly sexually assaulted a Hindu minor girl and was subsequently injured in police firing.
The BJP spokesperson asserted that the time has arrived for the State to initiate the sternest conceivable measures against what he described as predatory and diabolical criminal elements in order to safeguard Assamese society and preserve social harmony.
In this regard, the Assam State BJP urged the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, to undertake unprecedented punitive measures and to introduce stringent legislation aimed not only at suppressing such criminal activities but also at taking legal action against those who allegedly encourage or justify them. The party also expressed its gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Assam Police for the action taken against the accused Roz Ali, who, according to the statement, was neutralised in an encounter while attempting to flee.
The Assam State BJP further offered heartfelt prayers for the eternal peace and salvation of the departed soul of Madhurjya Barman, who displayed extraordinary courage and self-sacrifice by placing his own life at risk in an effort to save his sister.
The party conveyed its profound condolences to the bereaved family and affirmed that Madhurjya Barman’s supreme sacrifice and exemplary bravery shall forever stand as a beacon of inspiration for society. The party also prayed for the speedy and complete recovery of the injured girl presently undergoing treatment in hospital.
