Illegal Cattle Slaughter Suspected: 5 Arrested in Dhubri Police Raid

A police operation based on a tip-off has uncovered suspected illegal beef sales. Five people were arrested in the raid conducted on Friday at Charaldanga village under Gauripur Police Station in Dhubri district.

According to police, the operation was carried out at the residence of Ramjan Ali, led by Sub-Inspector (Probationary) Prabhash Karmakar. Though the accused tried to flee on seeing the police team, all five were apprehended at the spot.

The arrested persons are Ramjan Ali, Mehedi Hussain, Mehbub Hussain, Atikul Alam, and Sahid Alam.

During the search, blood stains, bone fragments, a wooden block used for cutting meat, a large container, and packets of raw meat kept ready for distribution were recovered from inside the house. Based on these items, police suspect that cattle were illegally slaughtered there.

In the raid, police seized 66.64 kg of suspected beef, one live red cow, one sword, three knives, and one dao. The seized items and the accused were taken to Gauripur Police Station in the presence of independent witnesses, and legal proceedings have been initiated.

Police said they are also investigating whether the accused were linked to any larger illegal cattle slaughter or cattle smuggling racket.
