The Kohima district administration, in collaboration with the Kohima Press Club, hosted a moving memorial tribute on August 27 at the DC’s Conference Hall in Kohima to honor the life and legacy of the late Niketu Iralu. During the solemn gathering, the district administration unveiled a dedicated inscription on behalf of the citizens, formally remembering Iralu as the “Conscience Keeper of the Naga People” for his unwavering commitment to peace, dialogue, humility, and moral courage through organizations such as Initiatives of Change, the Naga National Reconciliation Commission, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation, and Kerünyü Ki. District leaders—including Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem and Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso—lauded Iralu as a visionary scholar, writer, and beacon of integrity who demonstrated that complex societal conflicts could be resolved through forgiveness and reconciliation. Personal reflections were shared by his son, Kevipulie Iralu, who recounted his father’s transformative journey in global peacebuilding anchored in his Christian faith. The memorial also featured heartfelt tributes from the press fraternity, including a biography, poetry, reflections, and a short film screening, alongside musical performances of Iralu’s favorite hymns. Attended by civil officials, journalists, church leaders, and community representatives, the event concluded with prayers led by Rev. Dr. Ruokuovilie Sachü, cementing Niketu Iralu’s enduring legacy as a moral compass for Naga society.
