The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Kohima, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday organised Varta on 12 years of Modi Government with special focus on empowerment to prosperity, urban livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
Petevilie Khatsu, Additional Director and State Mission Director, DAY- NULM, and Abaii Suokhrie, State Mission Manager, DAY- NULM, Directorate of Urban Development, Nagaland, highlighted the government initiatives and achievements on street vendor, entrepreneurs and youth including PM SVANidhi.
This media interaction was held at Hotel Japfu Kohima in the presence of several mediapersons based in Kohima.
Petevilie Khatsu said schemes such as PM SVANidhi and DAY-NULM have played a key role in empowering urban poor communities through credit support, skill development and self-employment opportunities.
He said Nagaland has achieved significant progress under PM SVANidhi, launched in 2020 to support street vendors affected by the pandemic.
Khatsu said that against the target of 13,000 loans by 2030, 6,511 loans have sanctioned and 6, 394 loans disbursed worth ₹210.52.
He said 60 percent of beneficiaries were repaying their loans on time.
“PM SVANidhi is not just about giving loans; it is about giving respect and independence to our local vendors,” he added.
The scheme provides collateral-free loans in phases, along with interest subsidy, digital payment incentives and access to social security schemes.
Abaii Suokhrie highlighted that the mission has strengthened urban livelihoods through self-help groups, skill training and entrepreneurship support.
She said 884 self-help groups are currently active across Nagaland, helping women and vulnerable groups become financially independent.
The programme also discussed the new Deendayal Jan Aajeevika Yojana–Shehri (DJAY-S) pilot being implemented in Kohima, focusing on inclusive livelihood opportunities for vulnerable urban workers.
The programme was chaired by Andrew Lalchlandama, Media and Communication Officer, PIB, Kohima, while the vote of thanks was proposed by P. Sophie, Head of Office, PIB, Kohima.
