Nagaland Police Intensify ILP Checks Along Assam Border, Hundreds of Defaulters Detected

Nagaland Police have intensified Inner Line Permit (ILP) checking across several districts bordering Assam as part of preventive measures to maintain law and order after recent elections.

According to a press release issued by the Police Headquarters, the checking drive was carried out in six districts along the Assam border. On April 10, a total of 777 ILPs were verified, during which 436 defaulters were identified.

The drive continued on April 11, with officials checking 1,217 ILPs. During this round, 208 more defaulters were detected. Police said action has been taken against all those found violating ILP norms, and their cases have been forwarded to the respective district administrations for further action as per law.

Officials stated that the intensified checking was aimed at regulating the movement of non-indigenous persons and ensuring strict compliance with ILP rules, especially in the period following the Assam Assembly elections and the by-election in Mokokchung.

The police also said that such measures are necessary to prevent any unlawful activities and to maintain peace in sensitive border areas. The Inner Line Permit system is in place to regulate entry and stay of non-residents in Nagaland.

Nagaland Police further informed that all district police units have been instructed to continue regular ILP checking in coordination with district authorities. The focus will remain on strict enforcement of ILP provisions to avoid any violations and ensure proper monitoring of movement across border districts.
