NWHD Condemns Gunpoint Robbery of Woman in Dimapur, Demands Swift Action

The Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) has strongly condemned the recent gunpoint robbery involving a woman in Dimapur and called for immediate action against those responsible for the crime. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the women’s organisation expressed serious concern over the incident, which took place in broad daylight on April 13 near the victim’s residence in Dimapur. The organisation described the incident as deeply disturbing and said such crimes create fear among citizens and weaken the sense of safety within society.According to the NWHD, the robbery has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in the commercial hub of Nagaland. The organisation said Dimapur, along with the rest of Nagaland, has for many years been regarded as one of the safer places for women compared to many other parts of the country. It said the incident was therefore alarming and troubling for the public, especially women and families living in urban areas.

The women’s body urged the concerned authorities and law enforcement agencies to take swift and firm action to identify and arrest the people involved in the robbery. It said prompt action from the police would help restore public confidence and send a strong message against crimes targeting women. The NWHD also appealed to the police and security agencies to strengthen preventive measures across Dimapur. It called for increased patrolling in residential areas and vulnerable locations, especially during daytime hours when people generally expect public spaces to be safe. The organisation further stressed the need for fair and timely justice in such cases. It stated that delays in investigation or lack of visible action could create fear and insecurity among citizens. The hoho said protecting women and ensuring their safety must remain a priority for both the administration and society.

At the same time, the organisation appealed to residents to stay alert and cooperate with authorities in maintaining peace and law and order. It encouraged citizens to remain vigilant in their neighbourhoods and report suspicious activities to the police without delay. Expressing concern for the victim and her family, the NWHD extended its solidarity and support during what it described as a difficult period. The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to continue speaking for the safety, dignity, and rights of women across Nagaland.
