Shree Cement expands community development initiatives with solar-powered projects in Meghalaya

Shree Cement has announced the expansion of its community development initiatives in Meghalaya, strengthening its focus on education, clean energy access and sustainable rural development through a series of solar-powered interventions across the East Jaintia Hills region.

Implemented in partnership with the GHE Foundation and local stakeholders, the initiatives are designed to improve quality of life in remote communities while supporting long-term social and economic progress. As part of the programme, the company has established solar-powered smart classrooms and digital learning infrastructure in seven schools during FY26. The facilities, which include solar-powered computer laboratories, are benefiting nearly 3,000 students and 117 teachers by providing access to technology-enabled learning and curriculum-aligned educational content.

Shree Cement has also supported solar village electrification projects that have brought reliable electricity access to 250 households across 12 villages through solar microgrids. The initiative has enabled access to lighting, mobile charging and dependable power supply in areas with limited grid connectivity.

Further advancing clean energy adoption, the company has facilitated solar-powered cooking solutions for 151 households across 10 villages. The project integrates rooftop solar systems with electric pressure cookers, reducing dependence on firewood and promoting cleaner, more sustainable cooking practices.

Commenting on the development, a company spokesperson said Shree Cement remains committed to creating lasting community impact through sustainable solutions that address critical needs in education and energy access. The company said it will continue working with partners and local stakeholders to support inclusive growth and enhance future opportunities for communities across Meghalaya.
