Shree Cement has expanded its community development initiatives in Meghalaya, strengthening efforts to improve education, energy access and sustainable living in remote areas through a series of solar-powered projects.
The company, in partnership with GHE Foundation and local stakeholders, has established solar-powered smart classrooms and digital learning infrastructure in schools across the state. During FY26, seven schools were equipped with solar-powered computer laboratories, benefiting nearly 3,000 students and 117 teachers. The facilities provide access to digital learning tools and curriculum-based educational content in areas where electricity supply remains unreliable.
In addition to education-focused interventions, Shree Cement supported solar village electrification projects that have provided reliable electricity to 250 households across 12 villages. Through solar microgrids, residents now have access to lighting, mobile charging facilities and dependable power supply, improving safety and productivity.
The company has also introduced solar-powered clean cooking solutions in 151 households across 10 villages. The initiative combines rooftop solar systems with electric pressure cookers, helping reduce dependence on firewood while improving indoor air quality and promoting environmentally sustainable cooking practices.
