Vi records strong data growth in Assam & Northeast, expands network footprint across region

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has reported a 65 per cent increase in data consumption across Assam and North East telecom circles during January-December 2025, reflecting rising digital adoption and stronger demand for high-data mobile services in the region.

According to the company, the growth comes on the back of sustained network expansion initiatives, including the addition of more than 890 new sites across key spectrum bands. Vi said the expansion has widened its network reach to 19 more towns across the North East, strengthening coverage and improving user experience.

The telecom operator also attributed the surge in consumption to increasing subscriber preference for its unlimited data plans. Vi stated that it remains the only telecom operator currently offering unlimited 4G data plans in Assam and North East circles. Its “Non-Stop Hero” prepaid plans, starting at Rs 349, provide unlimited 4G data throughout the month, while “Hero Plans” starting at Rs 249 offer unlimited night data, weekend rollover benefits and additional emergency data support.

At the national level, Vi said it added over 1.3 lakh sites in the past year, boosting network capacity by 40 per cent. The company is targeting 90 per cent 4G population coverage and plans to roll out over 30,000 additional sites along with further 5G expansion in 17 priority circles during the current financial year.
