Barpeta district of Assam has been shaken by a horrific incident in which a 9-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered. The incident occurred on June 15 in No. 2 Chachra village under Baghbar police station.
According to reports, the child had returned from school earlier in the day but did not come back home. Her family launched a search and later discovered her body in a nearby field.
Police, led by senior district officials, immediately initiated an investigation and detained three minors suspected to be involved. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, while investigators began collecting evidence and questioning those linked to the case.
The crime has triggered widespread outrage among local residents, who are demanding strict punishment for the culprits and speedy justice for the victim. Police have assured that the investigation is ongoing and further legal proceedings will follow under the law governing juvenile offenders.
