Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially opened the “Lovlina Boxing Academy” in Borchandra, North Guwahati. The facility is intended to develop the state’s future boxing potential. Named after Olympic bronze winner Lovlina Borgohain, the academy represents a turning point in the development of Assam’s athletic community. Speaking to the crowd during the inauguration event, the Chief Minister praised Lovlina’s achievements and unwavering spirit, describing her as a representation of pride and tenacity for the state and the country.
The Assam government has granted a ₹2 crore grant through the Department of Sports to further expand the academy’s infrastructure, demonstrating its dedication to supporting sports. In order to provide a comfortable training atmosphere, the money will help build a residential hostel for trainees. The sporting community has expressed gratitude for the academy’s initiative to make it accessible to all aspiring athletes by setting the training fee at ₹500.
As she thanked the Chief Minister, a clearly tearful Lovlina said, “This is not just an academy — it is the realization of a dream I’ve long cherished.” My sincere gratitude goes out to Hon. CM @himantabiswa sir for launching the “Lovlina Boxing Academy & Gym.” We are inspired by your unwavering support and hope to develop future champions who will represent Assam and India with pride.
