Church Groups Demand Justice for Six Ki*lled in Manipur

A candlelight vigil was organised at the district headquarters of Tamenglong on Sunday to protest the killing of six Naga civilians and express solidarity with their families. The programme was jointly organised by the Town Churches Union (TCU) and the Zeliangrong Baptist Churches Council (ZBCC). Participants gathered to mourn the deaths of six Naga civilians, including two church leaders, and to call for peace and justice. According to the organisers, the vigil was held to condemn what they described as the brutal killing of six innocent Naga civilians, among them Rev. Manu Thiumai and Pastor Kenpibow. The gathering drew church leaders, members of different congregations and residents from various parts of Tamenglong district.

Holding candles, participants offered prayers for the victims and their families. Many also expressed concern over the continuing violence and its impact on communities in the region. Speaking at the event, Rev. Pastor Guigongdai Pamei said the vigil was organised to express grief and strong condemnation over the abduction and killing of the six civilians. He described the incident as deeply disturbing and called for collective efforts to prevent such acts of violence in the future. “The purpose of this vigil is to express our sorrow and condemnation over the killing of six innocent Naga civilians. Such inhumane and merciless acts should be condemned by every section of society,” he said.

Pamei urged both the state and central governments to take appropriate measures to ensure justice for the victims and to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents. He also appealed to citizens to work towards maintaining peace and harmony in society. The gathering observed prayers for the departed souls and sought strength for the bereaved families. Church leaders called upon the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible for the killings to justice. Participants also stressed the need for peace, reconciliation and mutual understanding among communities. They said violence and loss of innocent lives only deepen divisions and prolong suffering.
