Flexible Energy for a Changing India: HPCL Delivers 375 Lakh LPG Cylinders in April Amid Shift to On-Demand Use

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) reported strong growth in demand for flexible cooking fuel solutions in April 2026, as changing urban lifestyles, rising mobility and evolving household consumption patterns drove increased adoption of smaller LPG cylinders across India. The company said it delivered 375 lakh LPG cylinders between April 1 and April 30, reinforcing its nationwide supply capabilities and expanding consumer reach. A key trend during the month was the growing popularity of Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, particularly 5 kg and 2 kg variants. HPCL sold 7,87,543 units of 5 kg cylinders and 26,916 units of 2 kg cylinders in April.

According to the company, the smaller cylinders are increasingly being used by migrant workers, urban households, small vendors and micro-businesses seeking portable, low-cost and need-based energy solutions. HPCL said the shift reflects changing consumption behaviour from traditional bulk usage towards flexible and short-cycle consumption patterns. To support rising demand, the company handled 12,48,509 KL of Motor Spirit and 21,51,416 KL of High-Speed Diesel during the month, while dispatching 2,26,273 tankers nationwide. HPCL added that 99.3 per cent of LPG bookings were made online, improving efficiency and customer convenience.

The company also intensified vigilance operations, conducting 6,318 inspections, carrying out 664 raids, registering 44 FIRs and seizing 4,155 cylinders to curb irregularities across its distribution network.
