Godrej Launches India’s First MultiIon Battery Tech for Forklifts to Power Clean Supply Chains

Godrej Enterprises Group has launched India’s first Multi Ion battery technology for electric forklifts through its Material Handling Equipment (MHE) business, marking a major push towards cleaner and more efficient industrial supply chains. The company said the new technology aims to support India’s rapidly expanding manufacturing, warehousing and logistics sectors with sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions. The Multi Ion battery has been designed to offer 25 per cent lower total cost of ownership, higher equipment uptime and zero maintenance, while lasting through the full operational life of the forklift. Developed in collaboration with one of India’s leading deep-tech battery innovators, the battery delivers up to 5,000 life cycles, nearly 60 per cent more than standard lithium-ion batteries. It also supports fast and opportunity charging, eliminates rare earth dependency and performs efficiently in temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius.

India’s industrial and warehousing sector continues to witness strong growth, with more than 11 million sq ft of leasing recorded across the top eight cities in Q1 2026, driven by demand from e-commerce firms, third-party logistics players and manufacturing-led supply chain modernisation. Anil Lingayat, Business Head, Material Handling Equipment at Godrej Enterprises Group, said the innovation reflects the company’s focus on advanced engineering, R&D and technology-driven solutions that improve operational efficiency and sustainability across the logistics ecosystem, including MSMEs. The company added that the technology has undergone over 5,000 hours of real-world validation and comes with a seven-year warranty.

In Guwahati, the rising growth of logistics parks, warehouses and e-commerce distribution centres in Assam is expected to increase demand for advanced electric material handling equipment. Industry experts believe Guwahati-based businesses are gradually shifting towards energy-efficient forklifts and sustainable warehouse operations as the Northeast emerges as an important trade and logistics hub.
