Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured multiple major orders across its Metals & Minerals business, strengthening its presence in mining, steel and non-ferrous metals infrastructure. The projects, spanning iron ore handling, steel plant expansion and zinc processing, reinforce the company’s position as a leading engineering and EPC player while reflecting Chairman and Managing Director S. N. Subrahmanyan’s long-term strategy of supporting India’s industrial growth through diversified engineering capabilities.
Commenting on the development, S. N. Subrahmanyan said, “As India accelerates investments in augmenting its Metals & Minerals capacity to support long-term economic growth, L&T remains committed to partnering with the country’s leading enterprises in developing world-class industrial infrastructure.”
The largest order comes from India’s biggest iron ore producer, which is expanding its production capacity to 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030. L&T will execute an 18 MTPA Iron Ore Handling Plant in Chhattisgarh, covering engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of a downhill conveyor system, screening plant, stockpile, yard equipment and a Rapid Wagon Loading System. The project is expected to improve material handling and logistics efficiency, supporting the country’s growing steel industry.
L&T has also secured multiple Design & Build and Balance of Plant packages for the expansion of a public sector Navratna steel plant in West Bengal. Once completed, the facility’s production capacity will increase from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA, strengthening domestic steel manufacturing.
Adding to the order book is an EPC contract for a Zinc Processing Plant from a leading private sector metals producer. The scope includes design, engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and associated site services, further expanding L&T’s footprint across both ferrous and non-ferrous metals infrastructure.
Together, these projects demonstrate L&T’s ability to deliver large-scale engineering programmes across multiple segments of the metals value chain while maintaining a balanced mix of public and private sector clients.
Reflecting on the latest wins, S. N. Subrahmanyan added, “This reaffirms L&T’s enduring leadership in the minerals and metals EPC sector and reflects the deep trust customers place in our ability to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity.”
The orders also highlight L&T’s broader strategic direction under S. N. Subrahmanyan. While the company continues expanding into emerging areas such as AI infrastructure, digital engineering and clean energy, it has remained equally focused on strengthening its core engineering businesses. This balanced approach enables L&T to capitalise on new technology opportunities while reinforcing sectors that remain fundamental to India’s manufacturing and infrastructure ambitions.
As investments in industrial capacity continue to grow, engineering companies with expertise across mining, metals and manufacturing are expected to play an increasingly important role. L&T’s latest order wins not only expand its project portfolio but also reinforce its long-term strategy of building diversified capabilities that support India’s industrial development.
