The Nagaland Congress has launched a statewide public consultation programme titled “People’s Voice Questionnaire” as part of its efforts to gather public opinion and shape its policy vision and electoral strategy for the 2028 Assembly elections. The initiative was formally announced during a press conference in Kohima on Saturday, where party leaders said the exercise is aimed at understanding the aspirations, concerns and priorities of people across the state. Nagaland Congress Working President Khriedi Theunuo said the questionnaire has been designed to collect feedback on key issues affecting Nagaland and to ensure that the party’s future policies reflect the needs and expectations of the people. “The Congress wants to know what the people expect from the party and what kind of future they envision for Nagaland. The responses will help shape our policy-making and preparations for the 2028 elections,” Theunuo said.
According to him, questionnaires have already been distributed to all district units of the party. The Congress plans to reach out to a wide range of stakeholders, including church leaders, village authorities, social activists, community organisations and ordinary citizens from different parts of the state. Theunuo said the exercise is intended to encourage greater public participation in the political process and provide citizens with an opportunity to directly contribute to the party’s future direction. “A strong democracy begins when people speak honestly,” he said while urging people to actively participate in the consultation process. Nagaland Congress president and the state’s lone Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, said the survey comes at an important time as the party seeks to strengthen its presence and reconnect with voters after remaining out of power in the state for more than two decades.
“Until the voters express their views and aspirations, no government can formulate policies that truly reflect the needs of the people,” Jamir said.He acknowledged that the party has faced electoral setbacks in recent years and said the Congress is prepared to undertake self-assessment and identify areas where it needs improvement. According to party leaders, the consultation exercise is not only intended to help formulate an election agenda but also to serve as a platform for introspection and organisational rebuilding. The feedback received through the questionnaires will be analysed and incorporated into the party’s long-term vision for governance and development in Nagaland. The Congress leadership believes that direct engagement with citizens will help the party better understand local issues and strengthen its grassroots connect ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
