Three Assam Rifles personnel were killed and several others were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) struck an Assam Rifles convoy in Nagaland’s Chumoukedima district on Monday, triggering a major security operation in the area, officials said.The attack took place near Sokhuvi village when unidentified assailants targeted the moving convoy. According to initial reports, an IED was hurled at the convoy, causing a powerful explosion. Three personnel died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries.The injured personnel were shifted to a medical facility for treatment. However, officials have not yet released details about their condition.
The incident is the second IED attack targeting security forces in Chumoukedima district within a week, raising concerns over renewed militant activity in the region.Following the blast, the Assam Rifles and Dimapur Police launched a joint search operation to trace those responsible for the attack. Security has also been strengthened in and around the site, with additional personnel deployed as part of the ongoing operation. Meanwhile, retired Army officer and Kirti Chakra awardee Major Digvijay Singh Rawat claimed in a post on social media that the attack was carried out by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah), or NSCN (IM). He also alleged that the outfit had worked together with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in previous attacks on security forces.
In his post, Rawat wrote that it was the “second IED blast within a week by NSCN(IM) over Assam Rifles convoy at Chumoukedima” and alleged that ULFA and NSCN had jointly carried out several past ambushes on security personnel.
