Mizoram healthcare scheme to cover IVF treatment through Birla Fertility and IVF

The Mizoram government has empanelled Birla Fertility and IVF under the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme (MUHCS), enabling eligible couples to access specialised in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment at the organisation’s Guwahati centre with government-supported treatment costs.

The initiative, facilitated by the Mizoram State Health Care Society, will also provide specialist fertility consultations through outpatient department (OPD) services in Aizawl, improving access to reproductive healthcare and reducing the burden of travel and treatment expenses.

Couples advised by local practitioners to undergo IVF can approach the Chief Medical Officer’s office in Aizawl for the necessary referral and authorisation. Following approval, eligible beneficiaries can receive treatment at the Guwahati centre in accordance with MUHCS provisions.

Birla Fertility and IVF CEO Abhishek Aggrawal said the partnership would help make specialised fertility care more accessible and affordable. Dr Kalpana Jain, fertility specialist at the Guwahati centre, said local consultations and awareness initiatives could encourage timely diagnosis and treatment.

The centre offers IVF, intrauterine insemination, intracytoplasmic sperm injection and other fertility services, supported by specialised laboratories and multidisciplinary teams.

In Aizawl, the empanelment could ease out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure for eligible families while strengthening demand for local fertility consultations, diagnostic services and related healthcare support. It may also reduce the need for repeated long-distance travel for initial specialist assessments.

The initiative aims to improve access to advanced fertility treatment for eligible couples across Mizoram through local consultations and government-supported care.
